Signal is a large ensemble comprising some of the most gifted and innovative musicians based in New York, devoted to presenting a broad range of new music with energy, passion, and virtuosity. The ensemble performs under the musical direction of Brad Lubman, who founded Signal along with cellist and co-artistic director Lauren Radnofsky.

With Signal, Mr. Lubman steps out with a superb, hand-picked collection of musicians who have worked closely with him during the past ten years. Among these are the members of So Percussion, a dynamic group called "mesmerizing" and "brilliant" by The New York Times, plus members of Alarm Will Sound, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Gutbucket, and other leading New York ensembles.

Signal’s performances at this year’s Bang on a Can Marathon (May 31 – June 1) and Ojai Music Festival (June 5 – 8) mark the ensemble’s official debut. The group made a preview appearance at the 2007 June in Buffalo Festival, performing the music of Steve Reich, who praised Signal as "...a major addition to American (and International) musical life.” Said Reich, “This large, young, absolutely first-rate group of about 20 musicians under the superb direction of internationally acclaimed Music Director/Conductor Brad Lubman will be something new and important. We need more ensembles to fill this large and growing demand for new and lively music of our own time, written both here in America and throughout the world. I sincerely believe that Signal is precisely what we need in our musical life today."

Upcoming Signal projects include an all-Reich disc for Cantaloupe records (Daniel and You Are Variations), the co-commission and premiere of a new work by Reich for his 75th birthday year, the co-commission of a new piece by David Lang, and a tour with Helmut Lachenmann, including the U.S. premiere of his work Concertini.
